Great Ambience And Delicious Food At Veda

By:

What you see Veda is a popular restaurant-cum-bar on the outer circle of Connaught Place in Delhi. An executive outside the restaurant helps with the reservations and guides us to our tables. Inside, the dcor is beautiful with small tea lights placed on the tables and elsewhere, setting the mood for a romantic candle-light dinner.

The restaurant is owned by the famous fashion designer Rohit Bal, and reflects his style of design. Veda is dimly lit and is bathed with red light that is reflected from the mirror shards and the huge mirrors mounted on the walls. The bar area is in a separate section.

What you get - Veda serves North Indian cuisine. Since it is very dark in here, we find it difficult to read the menu. So while ordering, the staff places a small table light on our table. The food menu boasts of appetizers, soups, lamb, poultry, vegetarian preparations apart from Indian breads, rice and desserts. Theres a separate menu for drinks which includes beer, whiskey, wines, mocktails, cocktail and other beverages.

We ordered for Fresh Lime Soda and Pina Colada. Both were good enough. Our starters included Vegetarian Seekh Kebab (Rs. 325) while in the main course we settled for Malai kofta (Rs. 375) and Veda Daal (Rs. 375), which is the traditional Dal Makhani. In breads we opted for Butter Naan and Lachcha Parantha (Rs. 30-45).

While we waited for our order to arrive, we were served papad with chutney (complimentary). We liked the effort towards presentation where the papad was divided into different segments around the chutney bowl. The chutney was mostly made from tomato pulp and was sweet in taste. The seekh kebab rolls (8 pieces) were served with mint chutney and onions and were good to taste.

The plates were changed as soon as we finished the appetizer, and the main course was served next. The Indian breads were served in separate baskets and were huge in size. The Butter Naan in fact is apt for two people. The vegetable preparation was served in a copper handi and was piping hot.

The food at Veda is delectable and non-spicy. This is why you would see a number of foreign guests here, who prefer less spicy Indian food. The Malai kofta was rich with a filling of dry fruits, paneer and khoya with significant flavors of tomatoes and Indian herbs. The dal was also very scrumptious and creamy.

Our verdict - The dcor at Veda is simply dazzling and the food is great. The portion size is apt for 3-4 people. The staff here is hospitable. The tables are however small, which makes it a little uncomfortable. The prices are on the higher end. So if you want to take your partner for a romantic dinner or wish to treat yourself to lavish food then Veda is the place for you. MetroMela recommends that you make prior reservations at this popular Delhi restaurant as it is mostly very crowded for dinner. Paid parking facility is available outside the restaurant.

What you pay for a meal for two - Rs. 2,000
