Great Acne Tip - Acne Treatment Tips On Over The Counter Solutions

By:

You might find that your acne problems aren't helped by relying solely on natural acne tips, and you might feel you'd be better off with some of the topical treatments available from drug stores and pharmacists. However, choosing the right over-the-counter acne treatment tip might be tougher than you'd think, particularly with the similar messages you get from all the TV advertising. A good idea would be to consult your physician or dermatologist before following any acne treatment tips, but some of the more common acne treatment ingredients are listed below, along with details of how they work.

Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the more common ingredients in most over-the-counter acne treatments. By getting rid of the bacteria that cause acne, and removing dead skin cells, it's a common ingredient for fighting acne. It can be used on acne breakouts, but also as a preventative measure after a breakout. You might need to use it less often if it starts to dry out your skin, which is one of it's common side effects.

Some topical treatments include another common ingredient for treating acne - Salicylic Acid. Dead skin cells can clog your pours, which can lead to acne, and gels and lotions with Salicylic Acid help combat this. Again, once your acne has cleared up, you can continue to use products with Salicylic Acid as a preventative measure, but it can cause dry skin if applied often.

Resorcinol is another ingredient in some treatments, which also helps to clear and prevent acne problems by getting rid of dead skin cells.

Other topical acne remedies have Sulphur as a key ingredient, and whilst usually beneficial when combined with some of the other ingredients listed here, its not entirely clear how it works as an acne treatment.

Cleansing products, creams, and lotions that contain these ingredients have been shown to be effective at combating and preventing acne breakouts, however, it could be that there is a greater imbalance in your body that is causing your acne problems. Treating your body as whole, and taking a more holistic view of any treatment, rather than just focusing on acne tips and remedies, might be the best route to take in your aim to become acne free.
