Graphic prints have been a hot fashion trend for some time now. Perhaps they stem from our latest obsession with modernity, minimalism and digital. Maybe they are derived from ethnic fashion influences, such as Balinese, Moroccan and Indian prints, or perhaps our love for bright colour and texture when it comes to clothes. Either way they are cool, avant-garde and completely a la mode. So who is doing them best and how do we wear them?

Houndstooth:

Houndstooth is a classic print that can easily be modernised to meet the excitement that surrounds graphic prints. How? It could be as simple as buying a pair of houndstooth Converse and wearing them with black trousers and a blazer or white tee. It might be pairing a coloured houndstooth skirt or trousers with a white top and a bold pair of shoes. If you just want a small splash of the print buy it in a hat or cufflink.

Tees:

T-shirts are probably the easiest and least expensive way to incorporate graphics into your look. The design could be a few written words, a photo of a celebrity or a series of lines or shapes of colour. Graphic tees can be paired with jeans and runners or for something a bit more retro formal, pair one with a wide-leg pair of slacks, a black blazer and a brimmed hat.

Ethnic prints:

Textures, patterns, and geometrical lines all adorn the clothes from the world's most beautiful countries. In places like Bali, Morocco and India, they make great use of embroidery, beading, and coloured fabrics. They work with different styles and shapes - often more forgiving and breathable and with that add to the bohemian fashion wave as well as many others.

Bright colours:

Bright colours are always fun to wear and add pop to an outfit in a way few other styles can. Colour works especially well in summer. While you often see women in solid bright maxi dresses or shorts, bright colour should, like any good thing, come in small doses. Patterns break up solid colours nicely and give them a whole new texture. Missoni and Etro are two brands that do this very well.

Whether you're dressing a pattern up or down, make sure that you incorporate the right accessories to complete your look. That might be a leather briefcase to glamorise your argyle, or a pair of silver cufflinks to compliment your houndstooth dinner jacket.
