Grand Rapids Car Sales Put Chrysler Back In Black

Grand Rapids Car Sales Put Chrysler Back In Black

As I check the daily news each day and read about unemployment and closed businesses, I cant help but wonder if well ever kick this recession to the curb. The bankruptcies and bailouts of a few years ago left many Americans, including myself, feeling scared, disappointed, and unsure. While Id like to believe the many reports which indicate that the recession is over, the streets of Grand Rapids tell me otherwise. But just when I thought there was no hope, I read a news story that changed everything Chrysler had its first quarterly profit since it declared bankruptcy two years ago!

Now I know this is only one news report hidden among others that are less inspiring. But at this point, Ill take what I can get and hold onto that. I cant pinpoint exactly what it was about this story that I found so inspiring but perhaps its because it was about a local Michigan-based company, Chrysler.

Reports indicate that Chrysler earned $116 million in the first quarter of 2011. This is a huge improvement compared to $197 million loss in the same period last year. Thanks to dealerships across the country, such as your local Grand Rapids car dealer, sales of vehicles were up 18% while revenue was also up to $13.1 billion. As compared to last year, that marks a substantial 35% increase!

In a statement, Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler and FIAT CEO, reported that "Chrysler Group's improved sales and financial performance in the first quarter show that our rejuvenated product lineup is gaining momentum in the marketplace and resonating with customers." He went on to say "These results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees, suppliers and dealers, all of whom are helping Chrysler create a new corporate culture built on the quality of our products and processes, and simple, sound management principles."

The Imported from Detroit ad campaign is no doubt helping the cause. Featuring the Chrysler 200, Grand Rapids drivers are sure to appreciate the home-town feel of the commercial, even though it is about a different Michigan city. The all-new Chrysler 200 is available at your local Grand Rapids car dealer.

What else does Chrysler plan to do now that theyre in the black? Marchionne announced that soon the company will repay its $7.5 billion in outstanding loans with the U.S. and Canadian government with bank debt, so that it can pay back taxpayers who bailed out the company years ahead of schedule. Chrysler also promises to repay the loans by the end of June by selling $2.5 billion in bonds and borrowing $5 billion at better terms than those dictated with the government loans. Its great to see a company so dedicated to paying back loans and getting on the right track!

Chrysler has no plans of stopping and in fact is gearing up for even bigger years in 2012 and 2013. They plan to introduce several new vehicles while still highlighting the current ones such as the Chrysler 200. Grand Rapids drivers have a lot to look forward to!

After hearing of all this, I will approach the news with a newfound optimism! Though it might take more time yet, Im confident that with the hard-working Americans such as those at Chrysler, we will get past this recession and remain the world leader weve always been!
