The release of the original Gran Turismo game for the first Playstation made great waves all over the gaming community. We all know that racing simulations had been making a home in the PC for quite some time now, and although there were games such as Sega Rally, Mario Kart, and Polyphony Digital's Motor Toon Grand Prix, those games were not promising enough in terms of what the racing genre could actually offer to the gamers.

And with GT's launching in Japan in '97, it seems like fans' racing needs have finally been addressed. It was definitely a racer that has never been seen on the console before, therefore it does not come as a surprise that Gran Turismo and its preceding sequels collectively sold over 50 million copies worldwide. And not forgetting to mention that you can tune your car to your own specifications, but there's always something for ordinary racing fans as there is also an arcade mode for this game. Get suited for the coming of Gran Turismo 5, with GT5 Prologue giving you a taste of what to expect from the full title.

Since GT5 won't be out until sometime next year, you are sure to find that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is worth all your gaming time. Although this is not the full sequel, GT5 Prologue is a full insight into the much-anticipated 5th installment of the ever-popular racing game. You may not get the same full content as you can get from GT5, but still it's a good way to master and perfect your racing skills to sharpen them up in time for the release of Gran Turismo 5. It will surely keep you all geared up until the GT5 hits market next year.

First off, the Prologue allows you to pick your desired car from 40 possible choices. If you want to get your own copy of the GT5 Prologue, you can purchase it as a standalone version or it can be downloaded via the Playstation Network. For this one, you do not have the full roster of all the cars and tracks available in the full title but this game has got enough fun features to keep you occupied.

Although this might not be a full game in itself, it is still equipped with features to help make every gaming experience the best it can possibly be. If you think that offline gaming is too restricting and if you wish to expand your competition a bit further, you can take advantage of the GT5 Prologue Online Mode. All you need is a broadband connection and you can find millions of fellow racers all across the globe willing to compete against you in a race, as the online racing supports a total of 16 players. And the comparable lesser 5 tracks available for gameplay are superior enough that it'd feel like you are competing in a real race. How could it not be possible, as you get to compete in some of the world's most famous racetracks such as the Suzuka racetrack in Japan.

Just like in the offline version of the game, you can also play using the Garage Mode while engaging in online play. This mode offers full online racing support for up to 16 players and you can now race with people all over the world for as long as you have a broadband connection. And while you're at it, make sure that you compete in the Global Online Rankings Challenge as you take on the best competition there is. It can be quite a difficult task to reach the top of the rankings, but working your way their can be a great way to spend your gaming time.

So, as you gear up for the race make sure you use the Garage mode to help you get started. The Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has got a My Page option, which enables you to either Race, go to the Garage, watch TV, or look at the Album where pictures taken while in Race mode are stored. It has also got a Calendar that enables you to check racing schedules, as well as predicted weather for those upcoming races.

Although the PS3 SixAxis joypad can be quite responsive while playing GT5, plugging in a steering wheel can prove more rewarding. You'll have access to a MyPage option which lets you enjoy some other things outside of the whole racing scene.

For this game, you also have options on whether to use the standard Playstation joypad or plug in a steering wheel which is more in-tune with the whole racing experience.

With the features of GT5 Prologue, fans are surely raring to get their hands on the game and have a sneak preview into the full Gran Turismo 5 game. Until then, this isn't a pretty bad way to kill your time.
