Why Choose A Family Run Business With 30 Years Experience of Installing Double Glazing In Surrey, London and Berkshire

Grace Windows is a family run business with many years experience installing double glazing and conservatories in Surrey, London and Berkshire. When choosing an installer, it is vital to choose a company that has a great track record. There have been far too many cases in the past where jobs have been to a very low standard and left uncomplete, much to the distress of the home owner. A good double glazing company would be happy to provide you with testimonials and insurance backed guarentees, to ensure you are getting the standard of work promised to you.

Double glazing provides one of the best ways of reducing heat loss from the home (insulating the home), and it also reduces noise levels inside the home, which is useful if you live near a busy road, railway line or airport.

Double glazed windows have been available since the 1930s, and they remain popular. Between the two layers of glass there may be ordinary air, a vacuum or partial vacuum, or a heavy gas such as argon, krypton or xenon. Regardless of the filling, the space reduces the thermal conductivity between the two sheets of glass, and slows down heat loss from the home. Heavy gas and vacuum are better than ordinary air, but are more expensive. Of the gases used, argon is cheapest, and the most common.

Double glazing would normally use 4 mm thick panes of glass. The glass is often clear, but it could have special coatings, or be tinted. For most homes clear glass would be the normal option. Tinted and coated glasses would be more likely to be seen on large structures such as office blocks and public buildings.

Double glazed windows with tinted glass feature, will also slow down the heat transferred in through the window when in direct sunlight. This can be more useful in hot countries, as it saves electricity when running the air-conditioning. Tinted glass windows could break under thermal stresses, so they are heat treated in manufacture to avoid this.

Coated glass can have a polyester film coating, or a metal film coating. It gives the window a reflective, mirrored appearance when seen from the outside, but the window appears clear from the inside, like a one-way mirror.

Having a vacuum between the two panes of glass is the most effective design, but is also expensive. The seal can be broken by differential thermal expansion, so this design is not practical in countries where the outside and inside temperatures can differ by a lot. This tends to restrict the design to warmer parts of the world.

Our double glazing and conservatories in Surrey, London and Berkshire can be bought in standard factory built sizes, or it can be custom built to order.
