Goodwill Donations | Getting Involved in Goodwill Donations

Goodwill donations are a good way to support the needy people in your community. There are individuals in the community who need goodwill donations to survive. This is especially true for those with disabilities and social disadvantages. As a result of the growing need within our communities, there are now non-profit organizations that make it their responsibility to cater to such need adequately and fairly through goodwill donations.

If every member of the community was to make goodwill donations to those that they believe would benefit the most from the goodwill donations, there would still be a large number of the needy who would never get any attention. Not every needy person is in contact with a donor and at the same time, not every donor is in contact with a needy person. This is where these organizations come in. They act as the middle point for donors and the needy. They collect goodwill donations and distribute the same to the neediest people.

Goodwill donations do not only have to be in monetary form. Material donations may also be contributed as needy people can also make use of these materials. Some organizations, however, choose to sell these goodwill donations and the proceeds from these items are used to fund the various projects that they run to help the less privileged. An example of such projects is the workforce training and placement of those in need of employment to enable them provide for themselves. This way, they will no longer have to rely on goodwill donations in the long-run.

A popular trend today in goodwill donations is the donation of used cars by their owners. Incase you decide to get a new car or you have a dormant car in your garage, your used car can be a part of goodwill donations. There are local non-profit organizations that specialize in goodwill donations in the form of used cars.

The advantage of making goodwill donations to genuine organizations is that whenever the organization sells these items, you as the donor are entitled to a tax deduction for the value of the goodwill donations made. Ensure that you get your tax relief by following the guidelines provided by the organization as well as those of the IRS that concern goodwill donations.

Making goodwill donations is a commendable way of showing concern for your community—a step towards being the change you want to see.
