If your stairlift/chairlift has become noisy or inherited a squeak you may be inclined to try and lubricate oil your stairlift. Grabbing a can of DWD machine oil and spraying randomly could cause you all sorts of problems

Oiling lubrication should only be undertaken by a qualified trained chairlift engineer. The squeak noise will more than likely originate from the moving mechanism! Motor rollers and the removal of covers and safety plates will be required to access the offending parts

Only qualified engineers with training should remove covers and any other type of safety edge paddle. Its essential re-assembly of the stair lift is carried out by a trained engineer. They will also follow the stair lift companies recommendations and specifications of which types of oils lubricant to use and where it should be applied

Machine oil can react with certain plastics and rubbers! The reaction is not instant and damage will occur over time! Plastic wheels, covers will become brittle and shatter etc. Certain rubbers used on stairlift rollers will degrade perish or become brittle

It would be wise you get an engineer to attend and inspect your stair lift. The offending noise or squeak may be annoying and one may wish to wait until the stair lift is due for its annual service inspection etc. The offending noise could be an indication that something is wrong and needs attention!
