Good Karma Vs. Bad Karma

Good Karma Vs. Bad Karma

By:

You can find a lot of ways of looking at karma, along with quite a few different ways of describing it. Some say, What goes around, comes around. While this may possibly be true, it is a simplistic view of it.

Karma is most often referred to in terms of good or negative'. To complicate the situation even more, karma is usually 'weighted'.

Many Pagans talk about the 3-Fold or 9-Fold Law (that which you send out comes back 3 or 9x, respectively). These are examples of weighted karma, as well as neither is strictly true. To explain, let us look at the example of the young soul. The soul gets in what becomes a fight with a friend, punching that person in the eye. That soul has just incurred some negative karma. The scales tip. Later, a situation equivalent will happen to them, making the scales tip into balance. The karma has been satisfied. That is a 1x return. So neither the Three-Fold Law, nor the Nine-Fold Law would apply. Now, lets look at the same circumstance, but with a really old soul. The scales tip negatively extra heavily now, because that old soul should've known better. To to balance the scales again, the ancient soul may possibly end up getting mugged or beaten badly, landing in the hospital because of it. The end result is a lot more than 9x the original offense.

Practically everything that you choose to do has some sort of karmic results. Sometimes the acts are so minor as to be unnoticeable, or they may perhaps be undescribably major. It depends upon your actions, the outcomes of said actions, the age or evolutionary level of your respective soul AND the INTENT. As an example:

Lets say that you are shopping in a grocery store when you see a variety of apple you have never seen before. The apples appear yummy, but you can't tell if you will like them or not. So, you make the decision to sample one. It doesnt make any difference if you buy extra apples as a result of that taste or not. The fact remains that you have stolen an apple, and created some bad karma as a result. And it will be paid off.

Bad karma can be earned not only via our behavior that directly affect another person, but additionally by our what we do towards animals, and the environment. A person who leads a life of criminal behavior may well very well incur so much bad karma that it will take them several lifetimes to re-balance it.

Up til now, weve talked exclusively of negative karma, but karma can also of a positive kind. If we do a thing very good as a result of compassion or love, that will also create karma, but in your favor. And that good can possibly rebound to us by having something good happen to us, or will assist in re-balancing the bad karma that we may perhaps have incurred. However, undertaking good simply to earn positive karma isn't enough. Good karma is earned only when the good deeds are performed via a sincere desire to do good, or by way of something done with compassion or love. Your reason behind the act is an important factor. The same can be said for bad karma.

One time I heard about a woman driving home one day with her children. She drove by a family that was hitchhiking: a man, woman and two young kids. The woman continued home and had dinner with her family. Her meal was simple, but plentiful. Once she had eaten, she found herself thinking of that hitchhiking family. She went in search of them, intending to feed them. Unfortunately, she was unable to find them. Nevertheless, her intentions alone generated good karma for her.

Karma may be thought of as a teacher, as it shows the soul the difference between right and wrong, good from bad, etc.

As was stated earlier, motivation can also have a direct bearing on karma. Sometimes, you may do something that, under different circumstances would gain bad karma, but because of the motivation, will create positive karma instead. Lets have a look at a dramatic example: There s shooter on the rooftop firing at and killing people. Obviously, he is incurring negative karma. You find yourself in a position to stop the slaughter, but the only means that you can do it, is by shooting the sniper. In this case, you would incur negative karma if you only stood by and did nothing, but by shooting him and ending his slaughter, you are going to gain positive karma because your intent was the greater good.

The town in which you dwell has karma. Whether positive or negative, this karma has been generated by the actions of the city in general as well as actions of the people that reside there. Examples: Some small communities learned that they could generate an income by turning their community into a speed trap for uninformed motorists from other areas. Or consider the small town that has a single traffic light. The villages police officer sits at that stop light where he can control it. He makes certain the light will be red for any driver who doesnt live in that town. And the light will continue to be red until finally the driver gives up and runs the red light, whereupon he is then written a traffic ticket.

Just as communities may incur karma, so can nations. Saddam Hussein earned karma the moment he invaded Kuwait, but so did Iraq. The planet also has karma.

There is one other aspect of karma to talk about, known as karmic obligations. This is something that often takes place throughout many lifetimes. In other words, you do some action during 1 lifetime earning karma that must be paid back in another. Suppose you do anything that has a really negative effect on someone else, which you cant re-balance during that lifetime. The obligation to that person continues after you die. In your next lifetime, or the lifetime after that, you'll find yourself in the position of resolving that karmic debt. And likely not understanding why.
