Golf Training Aids, Gadgets And Guides

By:

This article is about the many types of training devices and guides for the golfer.. It lists some of the better known ones and gives a brief description of what they are. There are a number of ways to get help with your golf, from books and video games, to personal putting greens for inside your home or out in the garden.

Books and guides - There are golf books on improving different types of golf swing e.g. putt, drive, flop, etc. and books on how to recognise misplayed shots and thus to avoid them, and books on game psychology that aim to teach you how to have the right mind set when out on the golf course. In fact if there's something someone can teach you about golf, it will no doubt be out there in book form.

Indoor putting machines - Usually given as a gift to a child, these can provide an additional means of practising your putting skills to actually doing it outside on a proper golf course green. The machine helps to improve putting accuracy, but should not be the sole means of practising the putt.

Golf video games - Surprisingly enough, playing golf on your console or PC can actually help your real world game. In fact more so than the previously mentioned putting machines can help your putting. Some ways that a computer game can improve your real game are, being aware of your swing speed and how it affects your play, gaining good knowledge of a course layout where the course is available to play within the game and has been reproduced faithfully, being able to plan out your strategy affectively for the real game, understanding how a ball travels on a green, and understanding how wind affects the trajectory of the golf ball.

With the latest technology it is also possible to perfect your stance and swing, as the advancements in both hardware and software has enables computer systems to detect full body movement from legs, arms, and torso, down to head, hands, and even the movement of individual fingers (bending, flaying, etc).

Indoor putting greens - These come in many sizes, and can be purchased or self built. A fraction of the size of a green on an actual golf course, they are still useful for practising putting.

Garden putting greens - For the real enthusiast, and like the indoor greens, these too come in many sizes, but unlike the indoor ones, people have been known to have personal greens that are comparable to the size of golf course greens.

No matter your level of commitment or ability, there's some gadget or guide that can be used to improve your game skill and knowledge, whether a book or simple indoor device, or a complete recreation of a computer generated course, or life sized putting green in the rear garden.
