Golf Tips Slice It Or Hook It?

By:

When anybody looks for golf tips slice is always one of the words that follows. Why is it that so many golfers just cannot get the ball to stay on the straight and narrow?

A slice occurs when two conditions are met, the clubface is open which means it is aligned right of the target and when the swing travel is from outside the ball to inside.

If you consider these two components then you will see that the golf ball has no option but to turn in the air, just as a tennis racket induces spin on a ball so does a golf club.

The sliced golf shot will travel forward at first as it carries the momentum of the strike but as it loses that force the spin takes over. It is the spin that turns it to the right.

Look for any golf tips slice correction will be at the front of the index and the first few words will include "When you hit a golf ball..." Stop right there.

It is those few words which condemn all us golfers to spend hours in the rough looking for that wayward ball.

There should be a ban on any golf book mentioning hitting a golf ball anywhere, at all.

What we need to do to start our journey back onto the fairway is wash those words from our brain. We do not hit a golf ball.

The focus has to be adjusted, think about it, if I told you to hit a punch bag you would hit it, right? You would concentrate on the punch bag and, bam!. Let me share, you would not even do that properly.

Ask any boxer what he aims for to deliver a knockout punch, it is not the other boxer but a spot six inches behind him. To get maximum power his glove must travel through his opponent.

Lets consider this, you should not be aiming to hit the ball, you are aiming to finish your swing in a balanced and powerful stance. Hey, the ball just got in the way.

The very act of trying to 'hit the ball' dooms you to failure. Arnold Palmer would spend hours practicing his golf without a golf ball being present, just getting his swing into the groove and finding his balance.

For any struggling player who wants golf tips slice or hook, duff or thinned take this one piece of advice, stop trying to hit the ball.
