Golf carts are a common term to describe a vehicle used on the golf courses, to transport the golfers and their bags around the golf course. The term is sometimes used to refer to push carts, which are designed to carry the golf bag only. However, the most common use of the term is for the vehicles.

Usually, the golf cart or the golf buggy as it is sometimes called, is designed to hold two people and their clubs. However, there are many models of golf carts available today. Golf carts are either electrically powered or gasoline powered. Electric vehicles are more popular as they are safer, make less noise and cause less environment pollution.

These days, most golf courses provide their golfers with the option of renting a golf cart. Some courses are so large, that a golf cart becomes essential for the players. Most golf courses will charge extra for the rental of the golf cart, while some include it in the membership fees.

Using golf carts has many advantages. It is quicker and less strenuous than walking and saves a lot of time. they cause less pollution and are slow and steady. Due to these reasons, the golf carts are sometimes used for general transportation. Then they are called NEVs or Neighbourhood Electric Vehicles. There are however limitations of speed and the kinds of roads they can travel on.

Whether used on golf courses or for general purposes, several security measures need to be followed while riding in these golf carts. Golf carts are meant to travel short distances and maintain a speed of less than 15miles per hour. So, the speed limit has to be maintained. Passengers have to be seated while the cart is in motion, and not remain standing.

While on the golf course, it is recommended that the cart remains on the cart path and not on the water hazards or on the greens. The wheels of the golf cart can damage the turf and leave marks on the green. Finally, follow strictly all the golf cart rules and restrictions as posted by the clubhouse.
