Golf Caddy:- Info

A golf caddy is a person who accompanies a golf player around the golf course and carries his bag with the golf clubs and other accessories. Usually, a caddy is not employed by the club or the golf course. He is a private contractor and is self- employed. Sometimes, a caddy is connected to a club, but may not receive a fixed salary.

The word caddy or caddie is derived from the French word le cadet which means the boy or the youngest in the family. This term was adapted by the Scots in the 1600s, and referred to a general-purpose errand boy. It also began to be used in English around this time. It was much later, in1857, that the English dictionary recognized the term caddy, to mean only those carrying golf clubs.

Caddying can be of two types. The most common is the traditional caddying where both the golf player and the caddy walk together on the golf course. On the other hand, Fore-caddying involves the player riding on the golf carts with the caddy walking before him.

The caddy is supposed to provide the hole-description and then go ahead, to be able to spot the players tee shot. He will also measure the players yardage.

Being a golf caddy is a very attractive career action for young people. To be a good caddy, one must have a good knowledge of the game and be aware of golf etiquette. He also has to have a good understanding of golf course management and strategies involved in the game.

Most regular golfers have a unique comfort level with their caddies and prefer to play with them each time. A good caddy can make the game more enjoyable. A good caddy will provide useful suggestions regarding the game, recommend the appropriate golf club and also provide mental support. He may also take care of the menial tasks like fixing the ball marks, attending to the flag, or cleaning the ball, provided he is asked to do so.
