Goa : The Ideal Beach Holiday Location

By:

Essentially the beaches of Goa have drawn many to them for a relaxing holiday. Be it celebrities like film stars from Mumbai or the regular family on a vacation, Goa has something to offer for everyone. At each price range from a luxury five star holiday to a backpackers delight, Goa is a holiday destination for all. So what is so special about Goa? Lets take a look.

Goa is essentially divided by the capital of Panjim into North Goa and South Goa. As with the South of France, South Goa is where most of the luxury hotels are. That does not mean to say that North Goa does not have five stars or good hotels, but the truly private ones are all located in the south. The beaches here such as Benaulim, Palolem, Colva and Bogmalo are more exclusive, with the exception of Margao, which is more famous for its market place.

While in North Goa the beaches are hot and happening and open to the public. These include Candolim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Arambol. The huge beach at Calangute is most popular with the tourists so it may be a better idea to head to Vagator or Chapora if you are mobile. Or just walk down Calangute beach towards Candolim and you will lose the crowd.

Eating in Goa can be a seafood delight. The prawn vindalos, the pork sorpatel, the chicken steaks and the mutton chops, just about everything that a non vegetarian dreams about is available here. It makes sense to eat on the beach in a shack rather than in a restaurant. The shacks have a limited menu, but make fresh food in front of you and hey, you can booze on beer and watch the ocean as you wait for your grub.

What to carry back home after the holiday is over is also simple. The two main things are cashew nuts and port wine. The cashew plantations ensure that you pay less for cashew in Goa than in your home state. Plus the pouches of port wine make a great gift for anyone back home. Or just stock up on them for yourself so that when you miss being in Goa, you can treat yourself to one.
