Go On A Diet For High Blood Pressure

By:

There are several methods for controlling high blood pressure and for preventing it, but dieting is the best method to blood pressure levels low as well as to greatly improve you overall general health. However, dieting is the best option because as you prevent and fight the HBP, you will be preventing and fighting other conditions too. Taking a proper diet is advantageous over medication in that there are no side effects and there is no risk of complications. Some of the side effects of medication can be fatal, especially if you have a pre-existing medical condition or you are pregnant. Dieting also solves other health problems associated with being overweight and obese such as diabetes. To get the best results, you should talk to your doctor and you should try different approaches.

To prevent or fight high blood pressure, you should take plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables for vitamins so you get all the nutrients to stay healthy. You should take fish oil or eat fresh fish weekly, since it is the safest animal product in that it is low in fat, high in protein, and high in omega-3. Fish is high in protein and other nutrients, it is low in saturated fats, and it is high in omega-3 fatty acids, making it the best animal product to fight and prevent high blood pressure. Make sure the diet is balanced with other healthy food when it is a large meal like dinner.

Ensure that the food you take is cholesterol free or at least has low cholestrol levels. The food should be high in fiber such as whole grains and high in potassium such as bananas. To increase your body's metabolism, which in turn enables your body to burn fats, you should eat small, regular portions throughout the day and an ideal number to shoot for is 6 small meals. Other foods that help with high blood pressure are green tea and honey, which you can either drink a few cups of throughout the day or swap out coffee and replace it with tea so it is a normal routine for you.

When considering the diet for high blood pressure, it is important to note the foods to avoid. You should reduce alcohol consumption if you are at risk and you should avoid alcohol altogether if you have high blood pressure. Salt contains high percentages of sodium and this sodium is not only bad for your high blood pressure, it is also bad for the health of your heart in general. You should avoid saturated fats because they obstruct blood vessels and the heart, thereby worsening high blood pressure and exposing you to heart attacks and a host of cardiovascular diseases. Although caffeine in coffee and other food products only causes a temporary rise in blood pressure, the sharp rise can be dangerous for a weak heart. Most junk foods have refined sugar and processed foods and these are converted to fat, thereby obstructing the flow of blood and leading to high blood pressure.
