Glycogen Is How To Lose Weight

By:

Lets talk about real facts on how to lose weight! Why glycogen is so important to succeed. Aren't you tired of the same old strategies. In reality there are a lot of good diet plans out there. Here is what usually happens though. As I had mentioned in an earlier article, gaining weight will cause your metabolism to speed up. Why you might ask? Each cell in your body is like a small construction company, building houses, highways and constructing the visible features that give your body form. This construction company needs fuel to burn and it gets this from the foods you eat. Depending on your metabolic rate the amount may vary as to how much food you ingest before your body stores calories as fat. When you gain weight your resting metabolic rate increases. It does so because your body with its extra weight needs more fuel to sustain. The opposite is true when you lose weight (especially when you do so fast) your resting metabolic rate slows down. What happens is your body, being the miracle it is, suspects that you are starving and in its wisdom slows your RMR. Lets look at glycogen and see why it is important to understand. Glycogen is your key to burning fat! This chemical complex of sugar molecules is strung together in multiple, branched chains and is how your body stores carbohydrate energy. It doesn't matter if you eat a bowl of pasta or a banana your body stores carbohydrates as glycogen. Glycogen is stored in your liver and in your muscles. This should make it easier to understand that increase in your muscle mass allows you to store extra glycogen. Also you can see why a man eating the same amount of calories as a women will lose more weight. The reason being, men in general have more muscle tissue. Exercise is a way to empty your glycogen tanks (muscle) and understand that your body's relationship with glycogen, is what it takes to burn fat. Lets discuss this a little further. Suppose you took 2 thirty minute walks each day. These walks being in the distance of a mile. We know that you empty your glycogen tanks of approximately one hundred to 200 glycogen calories depending on the rate of your walk. Now your tanks are ready for carbohydrates derived from your diet. If your tanks are full and you eat a high-carbohydrate meal you might as well throw water on your fat burning furnace. What happens is that your body will burn the carbohydrates and your fat cells remain. I feel the need to explain a few more details. When I mentioned glycogen calories I might have been unclear. These calories are different than fat calories. On the norm most people burn a fuel mixture with a 50/50 ratio. Fifty percent "fat calories" and fifty percent "glycogen calories". With all of this said, exercise is key to empty your fuel tanks to make more room for fat burning glycogen. If your tanks are in need of glycogen your body stores these calories and burns the fat off! Remember your body wants and needs energy and fat will be burnt. As always I wish you the best in your weight loss goals. Until next time, burn fat!
