Glen Doing The Things That Have Made Him

"What we talked about was just Glen doing the things that have made him a very good and, more importantly, a winning NBA player," Van Gundy said. "And I think he's sort of been sidetracked into -- maybe because he hasn't been shooting the ball well -- getting concerned about numbers and things like that.
"That's hard for guys like him in this league because there are other guys who will get great attention because of the numbers they put up. A lot of what Glen does, he can certainly get numbers, but a lot of what he does will never show up on a stat sheet."
Van Gundy was referring to the "dirty work" -- taking charges, diving for loose balls, setting screens.
"I think what happens sometimes is here comes a guy to a new team and he wants to make a great impression, wants to make a big splash and so he's trying to do some things to make that impression that are not what he's really all about," he said.

Schwartz is no newbie to the postseason, making several trips while an assistant with the Titans including to the 2000 Super Bowl, which ended with Tennessee near St. Louis' goal line trying to tie the game.
"I think every game ... you learn something, so I don't know that there's anything other than that," said Schwartz, 18-30 in his three seasons as coach. "Other lessons we've had some success in the playoffs, also had failures. I've been part of a wild-card team that went to the Super Bowl, also been a part of a team that had home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and lost in the first game. So, I think the finality of playoffs win and advance, keep playing; lose and your season's over I think that's probably the thing that's the most different from a regular-season game."
The Warriors are willing to part with young guard Stephen Curry in order or obtain Howard, the website reports. But questions about Currys balky ankle could complicate talks. Golden State would also have to be willing to take on the $34 million remaining on Hedo Turkoglus contract, and a deal with Orlando would also include a future first-round draft pick (the Jazz own the rights to the Warriors 2012 first-round pick).
Among the selling points the Warriors would use to try to convince Howard to stay: a new arena the team hopes to build in the next five years; endorsement opportunities in Silicon Valley; a market that may appeal to Adidas, Howards shoe sponsor; the fact that the contract he could sign with Golden State would be worth $30 million more than the one he could sign elsewhere.
