Glass Sheet Tile Installation Guide

By:

When it comes to fixing up a kitchen or a bathroom tile is a beautiful way to go. When choosing tile it is best to choose the type of tile that will be ideal for your application and surroundings. For this tutorial we will be going over installation based on glass sheet tiles, most steps can be applied to other tile types.

First off you always want to inspect the tile you received. Always take time to randomly select from every box to see what types of variations and patterns you received. If a noticeable difference is seen have an idea of how you want the color to look on your surface. Whether it be that you want the tile's color to fade from one side to the other, or you want a more randomized look to the tile wall. Before mounting the tiles it is always best to plan the layout first.

After planning you will need to use a thin set mortar to adhere the tile's mesh backing to the surface. For best results always work in small batches. Place the mortar down with the flat side of the trowel, then use the notched side rake the mortar horizontally to the manufactures specifications. Then lay one sheet of tile mesh side down into the mortar and apply even pressure across the sheet to set it into place. After your first sheet is set it is good practice to strike a chalk line down the rows of first sheet in all directions so you can get a square layout.

Lastly finish off the work withe grout. To accent your tile pick a grout color that will make the tile stand out, like an opposite color, or something that will blend so only the tile is noticed. Apply an ample amount of grout to your working surface and work into the grout lines with a grout float. Make sure you completely fill the spaces and no air bubbles, pits, or voids are left over. Remove excess grout with the grout float and clean tile surface with a damp sponge. Let grout dry and haze over then wipe clean with a soft cloth. Clean the work surface by buffing and your new surface is finished.

Fallow these steps and you will have a beautiful new kitchen or bathroom in no time at all. For best results plan how the tile will layout for the project. When doing tile work it is always best to put the time into the consideration of the grout color, and making sure everything lines up perfectly.
