Giving Your Dog Enough Exercise

It is very important that as a dog owner you make sure that your dog gets enough exercise. By giving your dog enough exercise on a regular basis will help put a stop to bad behavior. This will also help you and your dog to stay happy and content. As a dog owner you are probably unsure about how much exercise your dog will need, and this article will help you with that.

A lot of dog owners think that if they have a small dog, they will not require as much exercise as a bigger dog. But this is not true, and it all depends of the type of breed that you have. Dogs that are of a mixed breed might be tricky, as it is difficult to establish how much exercise they will need. The best way for you to measure this is for you as the dog owner to monitor the daily activities of your dog.

If you notice that your dog is very timid and sleeps most of the day, then they might be a breed that does not need too much exercise. If your dog is very active and constantly runs around the yard, it is probably an indication of them needing some more exercise.

Most dog owners will tell you that the most popular way of giving your dog their much needed exercise is to walk them. It can however be a very challenging task if your dog pulls on their leash the whole time, or if your dog does not obey your commands. It is evident that you will be able to walk your dog on a more frequent basis if they are trained properly in the sense that they do not pull on their leash, and if they obey your commands. You should start training your dog when they are still very young, as it will become more difficult to do when they are older.

A dog that walks correctly is a dog that will not pull on their leash and will also obey the commands of their owner. If you for example say to your dog sit, they must stop and immediately sit down. If you say to your dog fetch, they should immediately go after what you threw them to fetch.

If you train your dog correctly and teach them the basic commands, walking as a part of exercise for your dog will become a much more enjoyable experience for both you and your dog.
