Give The Kids A Reason To Look Forward To Their Time Off School

By:

The pressure of constant studying, and especially having to prepare for SATs and other crucial school exams, is telling on many of our children.

With the regularity of the testing procedure throughout their school lives, there's little wonder that they can soon find that there's little time in their holidays to truly switch off, and enjoy the things that really should be part of all their growing up. Take, for example, valuable time spent unwinding with the rest of their family.

If children are too busy during their half-term and main school holidays, then they are missing out on a vital part of their social development. If they don't get the chance to meet and interact with other children outside their usual circle, i.e. the friends they meet daily at school, then they could easily be putting themselves at a disadvantage when it comes to stepping out into the wide world of work and business.

Holidays and short breaks are a great way of doing this. They take children out of their 'comfort zones' and get them used to relating to others of their own age whom they have never met before. They also get chances to form friendships through enjoying and sharing their out-of-school experiences on an equal level with others.

These times spent outside of the learning environment don't have to be filled with exciting things to do; it's just as important that children learn that there are lots of other things besides work and play from which they can get fulfilment and enjoy happy times.

For example, on a family holiday they might get the chance to enjoy activities which just aren't available near them on a regular basis. They could enjoy all the excitement of a funfair, meet one of their favourite cartoon or TV show characters, take part in organised games or activities or simply chill out and just make the most of not having to rush around to get to their next lesson on time.

Lots of families take this kind of break during their children's half-term holidays, and because they're popular, the family holiday centres which lay on these breaks put in a special effort to make sure that the kids can leave all the worries of school behind them for a whole week. There are extra activities laid on especially with the young ones in mind, meaning that homework, for once, can take a back seat.
Then, they can return refreshed and ready for the challenges ahead of them.
