Give Success The Time It Needs, It Can Take Longer Than Originally Planned

Give Success The Time It Needs, It Can Take Longer Than Originally Planned

The following quote holds a huge amount of truth. Read it through twice before moving on.

"All of us are in the process of overestimating what you can achieve in the short term and underestimating what you can achieve in the long term."

It can really open up our eyes to the truth behind being successful in any field you choose; Sports, the corporate world, Home Based Businesses and more.

Let's say that your goal is time and financial freedom; and in order to achieve that goal you have chosen the route of a home based business. You need to make sure you have your goals aligned with your reality.

There is nothing wrong with thinking big, in fact the bigger you dream the better. You just need to make sure that your timeframe associated with the goals are in line with what your mind can believe.

If you are like most people you have probably been living your life so far in line with the 40 year plan. That is; working for 40 years in a job you may not like, paying off the mortgage on your house during that 40 years and then having to retire on 40% of what you used to earn. It's very hard to find satisfaction and true happiness in these conditions.

You need to recognise that this new plan has dramatically moved up your time scale, but you probably aren't going to become an instant millionaire. You're going to have to work at it and build up your business.

So you're now onto a 5yr plan. Let's pretend it takes even a little longer than planned and it takes you 7-10 years. That is cutting your old life plan by over 75%. When you look at this way I'm sure you'll agree that a little extra work and persistence now will pay off in the future.

For some reason there seems to be this theory going round that there is a big magic red button that you can push, sit back and watch the money come flowing in, instantly retiring on a residual income.

When they don't get the results they want in the first month, 6 months or even a year, they give up and go back to their job. How crazy is giving up a 5yr plan for a 40yr one!

Of the two options below, which sounds like the better idea to you?

1) Commute 1-2hours every day, work a 40hr Mon-Fri week, taking 4 weeks holiday a year. Get paid $50k per year, less tax until you are forced to retire at 65.

2) Commute 30 seconds to your office; work hard for 4hrs/day, 4 days a week, take the rest of the time off to spend with your friends and family. I'll pay you $500/wk for the first 6 months then once you learnt some new skills I'll pay you $2000/wk. After a couple of years when you mastered a range of new skills I'll let you set your salary at whatever you want.

If you get the feeling that option 1 offers the more long term "security" then do yourself a favour and go back to a job that you don't like so you can retire on less than you need in 40 years time.

If option two looks like the smarter one for you then find a home based business and start learning.

If the first few months are harder than you'd thought they be, promise me you'll look at the big picture and the long term benefits before you give up and slink back to a job.

Stay committed to your decision. Let your dreams and desires motivate you. Focus on your actions and not your results. If you're persistent in your actions, the results will naturally follow.

Want to know my personal motto? "If it takes me 2 years to become a millionaire...WHO CARES!" There was never a chance of me EVER doing that in my previous job and career.
