Give Back In Three Different Ways

By:

As many recent violent events indicate, we live in a cruel world, where few have regard for the value of human life. Unfortunately, the overall side effect is apathy in the people across the globe that can make an effort to better the lives of the suffering across the globe. But you don't have to be one of the many that simply gives in. Instead, be the one to stand up.

How can you be the one to change the world around you? Let's go over three major ways.

First, give time. There are volunteering possibilities with virtually any and every subject about which you are passionate. You don't always have to be on a set schedule to give a few hours. If you have an unpredictable timetable to work with, then keep your eyes and ears open for opportunities that allow you to give an hour here and there--or look for neighborhood projects that take place exclusively over a weekend when you are free.

If you're not sure of where to search for the best volunteering opportunities, you should know that the best places to look are usually public schools, hospitals, and animal shelters. If you're looking to give time on a major scale, then do your research on global humanitarian projects, which allow you to work directly with villagers in Central or South America or Asia and Africa.

Second, give money. Money makes things happen! Of course, before you give a cent to any organization, you should do plenty of research to make sure that every donation will be going directly to projects that will further the cause you care about. Unfortunately, there are plenty of corrupt groups out there that front as charity organizations.

It can be difficult to donate when you're operating on a tight budget, but if you factor it into your expenses every month, then you will most likely be able to work around it, especially because many charitable groups allow you to choose your own monthly giving amount.

Third, give means. It may seem like a no-brainer to pack up unwanted clothes and drop them off at the nearest thrift store, but you can do more. For example, in the aftermath of recent storms, many animal shelters lost everything, but they also had to shoulder the burden of gathering animals that had been separated from their owners by floods and hurricanes. So I made it my mission to contribute as many items as possible to help them out.

If you do your best to give back whenever possible, you may not see the immediate impact, but you will feel it within yourself. So don't wait.
