Giggling Girls, Popcorn, And Slumber Parties

By:

I'm pretty sure that when I was growing up there was absolutely nothing that my friends and I thought was cooler than being able to have a slumber party at a friend's house. These fun filled sleepovers were the ultimate in liberation. I was always one of those girls who felt like it was my responsibility to be really mature for my age. Maybe it came from being the oldest child or something. All I know is that when it was slumber party time I had an excuse to totally let loose and let the popcorn fights begin.

I've never been good at staying awake during movies and since the goal at almost every sleep over is to turn it into an all nighter, I had to do something to keep myself entertained. Usually that something involved sneakily throwing unpopped kernels at my friends and then blaming it on someone else.Of course no slumber party would be complete without playing several games of M.A.S.H, and I'm definitely not talking about reenacting episodes of a show about some crazy military doctors. For those of you who don't know, M.A.S.H is the ultimate teen match making game.

By the time you are done playing the game, you know who you are going to marry, how many kids you are going to have, what job you will have when you grow up, and whether you or going to end up living in a mansion or a sand castle. The more we played M.A.S.H, the giddier we would always get. After all, who could play a game that matches you up with your biggest crush without getting a little bit excited?

Naturally as this giddiness began to rise, the next activity that we moved on to was prank calling the boys that we had crushes on. It was a great time to make complete fools out of ourselves while trying to figure out what the boys thought of us. Sometimes the results of these conversations were more positive than others, but usually they only served the purpose of getting us embarrassed beyond belief.

Really all of the slumber parties that I went to were completely harmless. On the other hand, knowing that under the influence of all my giggly giddy friends at sleepovers I was willing to do crazy things like have popcorn fights and make prank phone calls, I'll have to think twice before I let any of my daughters partake in the ultimate joy of slumber partying.
