For every holiday that you have to buy a gift on, there are some clich gifts and there are some get-through-this-holiday-without-embarrassing-yourself gifts. Heres a guide to buying some great gifts for mom without having to resort to the old clichs or the safe gifts.

Money isnt the object
A lot of people tend to try and spend big on a gift for mom; the feelings behind this are of course truly sentimental but remember that money is not the key to expressing love for mom. When buying gifts for her, keep a simple rule in mind; dont spend more than you can afford and more than you need to. The gift should make mom feel special, it should make her feel loved and it should never come off as if money is the equivalent of a childs love. On that note, try not to get into any sibling rivalry. Attempts to out do your brother or sister on a mothers day gift will leave your mom with something really expensive and incredibly useless.

Frugality isnt a sin
Frugal gifts arent a bad idea for mom. Dont think that frugality is cheap, youre the only one who puts a price on moms love, your mom will love whatever you get her (as long as it isnt used to drill holes with or needs to be fed). That doesnt mean you have to resort to buying overpriced flowers that might not even be as good as they look on the website and will die in a week. Does she like to live and eat healthy? Try mothers day fruit baskets or fruit bouquets. Theres nothing like the indulgence of fresh chocolate dipped fruit to make mom happy.

Be sure
If you decide on something like a dress, perfume or jewelry, make sure you know what she likes. Dont buy the wrong size, color or brand for her, it shows the highest level of inconsideration.
