Gifts Everyone Should Have This Holiday Season, From E-readers To Designer Watches

The holiday season is officially upon us, which means it's time to get a move on that holiday shopping (unless you're like me and have had it done for a month or so). Whatever you're celebrating, this time of year is a time to give gifts, and we've compiled a list of the top gifts for this year.

An E-reader

Over the past couple of years, e-readers, or e-books, have become enormously popular. They've been around since as early as the 1970s, but never really caught on -- until now. Their popularity lies in their convenience and technological chic. They're a logical next step in entertainment, especially for avid readers who move through material quickly and aren't able to carry around multiple books, newspapers and magazines wherever they go. There's a number of e-readers you can choose from, the most popular of which are the Amazon's Kindle, Barnes and Noble's Nook and Apple's iPad. (The iPad is technically considered a tablet computer with e-reader capabilities, while the Kindle and the Nook are primarily e-readers.)

A Luxury Watch

Designer watches make a wonderful gift, especially for those who value style and class. The possibilities of what kind of luxury watch you can buy are literally limitless -- there are hundreds of brands, all with hundreds of their own designs. Look into Hublot, Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe watches, to start -- though you won't have to look far before finding a number of beautiful designer watches to choose from.

A Game Console

You can do a lot more on game consoles than just play games nowadays. On many, including the Wii, X-Box 360 and PS3, you can play DVDs (you can play Blu Ray discs on PS3s, and a Blu Ray drive is rumored on the next model of Wii) and CDs. These devices have also struck up a deal with Netflix that allows Instant Watch movies to stream directly to your TV via the devices.

A Vacation

Set up the recipient with a package to a vacation destination you know he or she's been itching to visit, or somewhere you think he or she might enjoy, or give them an airline gift card.

Gift Card

Speaking of gift cards, this is by far the simplest gift you could get, but could also be the most effective. It's classier than just giving money, but still allow the recipient to choose exactly what he or she wants -- perfect for those people who refuse to give you any clues as to what they really want. You can either get a card from the recipient's favorite store, or get a credit gift card, which can be used at any store that accepts credit from that particular company.
