Gift Ideas For The Newborn Baby

Whenever a new baby is born, friends and family are looking to celebrate the occasion with greetings and presents, but what should one buy for a newborn baby? There are a few different ways to look at it; either you buy something to be used by the baby while an infant, or you buy something he or she can enjoy as they grow up.

The most popular gift for babies ought to be clothes. Few people can resist buying these small, cute baby outfits. While baby clothes are a good idea, there is one thing to consider; babies grow fast, very fast. If you buy clothes sized for an infant, the bay will grow out of it in no time. If there are many people buying baby clothing, he or she wont even have time to wear it all before it is too small.

If you do want to buy baby clothing as a gift, try buying it one, or two sizes to big. That way the baby will have at least one nice outfit to wear after a few weeks when all the other clothes are packed neatly in a box to be used by a potential sibling or relative.

Another good baby gift is toys; all kids love toys. For babies and small children there are plenty of both fun and educational toys to get, it doesnt have to be a toy gun or similar. In the early childhood babies are very curious, making bright colors and odd shapes an adventure to explore. There are numerous of toys perfect for this; from brightly colored bricks to blanket and baby books with possibilities to explore, a great gift for any baby.

A third idea is to buy jewelry, either to be used by the baby or something he or she can use as they grow older. A gold chain or bracelet perhaps with an inscription makes for a perfect baby gift, but make sure it doesnt have any small parts if you buy something to be used while being an infant.

Some people rather buy gifts to be used when the baby gets a little older. This can be a number of things, but some things grow better with time.

Wine, even though it may sound strange as a baby gift, can be an excellent present for a newborn. Of course the wine is not to be enjoyed until his or hers eighteenth birthday or twenty-first in some places but wine chosen carefully will have aged to perfection by then. A few bottles of wine from the year you where born will make for a great birthday party some eighteen years after.

Other gifts meant for adulthood can be; art, collectibles or virtually anything that ages well. How about a few rare stamps to start the babies stamp collection? Or perhaps a fine bottle of scotch?

No matter what you buy, the single most important thing is to celebrate the wonderful occasion of a newborn baby. No gifts in the world can ever match the feeling of the gift of life.
