Getting To London Heathrow Airport?

By:

The mistake that people so commonly make when going on holiday is forgetting to arrange their transport to and from the airport. You can get so caught up with booking the flights, the hotel, the transfers, a hire car and activities to do when you arrive, that this seems like a tiny, insignificant detail. But if the day of your holiday arrives and you're left chasing a bus with your suitcase bumping along behind you, you will not be a happy camper!

If you have a car, you need to work out whether it would be more cost effective to leave it in the long stay car park while you're away, or if public transport would be cheaper. Londoners have several options; the Piccadilly Line on the tube runs to all terminals at Heathrow, and you can also take the Heathrow Express train, which departs from Paddington Station every quarter of an hour. These are both quite fast ways to get there from the city; the only set back is that you will be carrying your own luggage, which is quite a struggle during rush hour. Many choose to book a Heathrow airport taxi intead to avoid this problem. Taxis in Heathrow also give you more flexibility with timing, and can take you to or from the main door without the need of a shuttle bus.

When you do arrange your travel to Heathrow airport, make sure you leave yourself enough time to check in, especially during busy periods. Passengers are generally advised to arrive three hours before the time of their flight; if you are lucky enough to be checked in quickly, there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to keep you busy until it's time to go to your gate. By this point, your luggage will have been checked in, so your hands are free to try on perfume and designer sunglasses in the duty free!

Often, the taxi service Heathrow airport has is used by business people, who are travelling regularly for work rather than pleasure. Sadly, not everyone passing through the doors is going on holiday. Booking a London Heathrow taxi may not be a consolation, but it certainly makes the journey run a little more smoothly. You'll recognise them with smart suits and briefcases, rather than flip flops and bikinis!

Whichever way you decide to travel to and from Heathrow airport, make sure you plan it well in advance to avoid any hassle or disappointment. It might not be quite as glamorous, but just think of it as part of your holiday!
