Hermit Crabs. The fact that you are searching for more information about these sweet little creatures isn't surprising. Don't worry you will find yourself at that "adorable" stage one day. Because they get cuter with each passing day! I would have to say that most people don't know too much about hermit crabs. Therefore the thought of bringing one of them in as a pet might seem as good idea as it would be to bring in a python or tarantula as a pet.

However the above two shouldn't be put into the same category as the cute little hermit crab. Although I will be saying some great things about hermit crabs I won't be saying anything negative about pythons or tarantulas. For starters I will talk about the great potential he has to be a great pet!

It is not a good idea to bring a pet into your home without learning a little bit about it. In fact you should probably know exactly what it is before bringing it home. And that shouldn't change with the hermit crab. I will be explaining this little creature so that you can gain a better understanding of him with some scientific terminology as well as some layman's terms. Don't worry though I will try and explain anything scientific I say so you can have a better understanding.Hermit Crabs that you see in the tourist shops along the coast or in your local pet stores window is a land based (terrestrial) hermit crab. This crab is a part of the family of coenobitidae.

These animals are very exceptional in the wild. These little crustaceans are quite different from many other animals. One of the main differences is the fact that he uses his shell as his home. Another is that the ocean is where he began his life. They only have to go back to the shoreline to take a dip and replenish their water needs every few months.

You might be shocked to learn that the supplies you need are less than you may think. One of the most important things to do when you are buying a hermit crab is to consider buying more than one. It may come as a surprise to you that hermit crabs are "social happy crabs'. Although there name might suggest that these little creatures are antisocial they aren't. When you begin to interact with you new pet you will begin to get what I mean. Be sure to consider buying more than one when you go to buy your crab.

Hermit crabs may not be cheaper when you buy them by the dozen but trust me they will be a lot more happy when you do. It's not uncommon for hermit crab lovers to literally purchase them by the dozen. When found in their natural habitat they are more commonly found together rather than alone.
