Getting Those 6-pack Abs

By:

Although many people focus on abdominal exercise to flatten and tone their stomach, in many cases they are training their stomach to stick out instead of appearing flat and solid. Most of these people notice some changes when they first begin to work their abs, but little changes after a month or two.

The biggest mistake people make is doing their abdominal exercises incorrectly. A lot of people do their abdominal exercises half-heartedly, gradually increasing the amount of repetitions they perform, while achieving few results. To obtain that flat stomach you desire, you need to get your muscles conditioned to retain that shape.

If you keep your stomach muscles tightened while exercising, you can obtain those flat abs you are hoping for. Prior to performing your abdominal exercises, be sure to suck in your gut and make your stomach muscles tighter. Your abdominal muscles should continue to be tight while you complete all your repetitions. When you keep your abdominal muscles tightened, you will feel your abs burn much more than you would have felt without tightening them. When you tighten your abdominal muscles during a workout, you are conditioning them to retain that shape, rather than strengthening them without toning them.

Although it seems like if you do enough sit-ups and practice good eating habits you should be entitled to flat well defined abs, this is not the case. Unfortunately, the workout routine you use to tone and shape your abs may not be designed to produce the six-pack abs you're looking for. You may not realize it, but your ab workout may only work your upper abs, giving you a two-pack instead of the desired six. In order to get traffic-stopping abs, you need to do a variety of abdominal exercise workouts that focus on different abdominal muscle groups.

Sit-ups are one exercise that you can vary in order to target different abdominal muscles; there are also certain leg lifting exercises that can be varied for the same reason. Sit-ups are the most popular exercise for the abs, but there are also effective abdominal workouts that tighten your abs by focusing on your smaller, more difficult-to-tone abdominal muscles. These exercises will provide you with abdominal muscles that are generally toned. But there is no one exercise that will result in perfect abdominal muscles. An effective abdominal workout routine combines various abdominal exercises.

It is possible for anyone who wants it badly enough to get washboard abs, but getting your abs into this shape and maintaining it is a lot of work and not entirely realistic for most people. However, getting your stomach to flatten out and stay toned with abdominal exercise is a very real possibility and doesn't require you to devote your life to the gym to accomplish this.
