Getting Started With Email Marketing

By:

Email marketing can be a great way to build your business and to get customers. It is a powerful tool that has many good points. It is a great option if you have a small budget because email is free. You can easily set up an email marketing campaign and get started quickly if you understand the basics on how to do it.

Where to Start

One of the biggest challenges in email marketing is figuring out what to say. It is not easy to put together an email marketing campaign when you have never done one before. There is a lot of helpful information out there, but it does not always give you what you need to know where to start.

The first rule is that you want to be casual. You do not want to be too professional. You want to avoid sounding stuffy or too sales-like. You have to keep it laid back and friendly. Stick to a conversational tone.

Make a Friend

You want your email marketing efforts to lead to a friendship of sorts between you and your customers. You need to be personal. If your emails seem standoffish or impersonal then people will not read them. You need to be friendly. You want to build a relationship.

You should make sure your name is in the From area of the email and address it directly to your customer. You should always include a personal message with your mailings so your customers know you are a real person. Encourage them to send you emails with their questions or comments and respond when they do.

Put in some personal stories and write your own content. Make it something that allows them to get to know you. Become a real person and not just an email.

Choose your Subject Carefully

The trickiest part of email marketing is getting people to open the emails. The best tool you have to get your emails open is to choose a great subject. You need to think about your subject line carefully. Keep them short and to the point. You do not want your email to get lost in with all the junk emails. Make sure your subject line commands attention and that it makes it clear it is something they want to read.

The best way to write a subject line is to think about what would get you to open the email. Put yourself in the position of the customer and think about what someone could say to make you open the email. Your subject line must give them a reason. The worst thing you can do is give them a reason to hit delete. Give them a reason to open it.

Email marketing can be very beneficial, but it is not easy. There is a lot of competition and you can not force someone to read an email. You have to put your emails together carefully. You have to make it stand out. Good email marketing starts with the right approach. Make sure that you have the right message up front in both what you say, how you say it and how you present it.
