Getting Short Term Storage From Your Courier Company

By:

Many people that ship with courier companies find it endlessly difficult to always arrange their own storage needs at their own facilities, or through third parties, as maintaining storage is always expensive. That is why courier companies that offer storage are in high demand, as short term storage solutions from a courier allow companies to stay further ahead on their production schedule without having to maintain their own storage. This is why more and more companies which offer Miami delivery service are now also branching out in to offering short term storage.

If you find a courier which offers short term storage, the first thing that you're going to want to do is find out exactly what they mean by the term, "short term", as this can mean vastly different things depending on the courier that you are dealing with. For instance, there are some couriers who offer storage which is limited to periods of 48 hours, others which offer up to a week and, still others, a month. There are also couriers which offer long term storage and full warehousing options.

The next thing that you have to consider is what you're actually going to end up paying for that storage. Different couriers will structure that in different ways. With some couriers, if you ship a certain volume with them and are an account holder, there is a certain amount of short term storage they may credit to you free of charge. Always check how much it costs though, as there can be a great disparity between courier companies if you're hiring short term storage.

Another thing to look into when considering short term storage through a courier company is whether or not the units are temperature controlled. Uncontrolled units can get extremely hot due to how most storage units are constructed, and this can cause damage even to products that you wouldn't normally worry about becoming damaged from heat exposure. Make sure you know what kind of temperature controls are in place in storage before putting your goods there.

You should also be sure to find out how much insurance your courier has on their short term storage units. Sometimes this isn't very much, and if you're shipping something very valuable that needs to be stored, you're going to want to make sure that it is insured for an adequate amount. Sometimes you can add extra insurance through the courier, or you could always just purchase your own.
