There are loads of opportunities for you to move into the automotive, transportation and logistics industry, a range of vacancies great you throughout the newspaper classified section and online jobs boards.

Is it the right time to become a trucker? I say yes, there is always vacancies in trucking and don't forget that people will always need there shopping and goods delivered to there homes and supermarkets where they can browse and choose what they want.

Without the hard working truck driver delivering such goods, we would be unable to sustain our current lifestyles. The road network provides us with endless opportunity, choice and value for money.

So what do i need to become a trucker? In order to drive a truck in the States, you require a class A drivers licence, this can be obtained in all states and other countries will have equivalent certifications.

Once you have obtained this you will need to get a Commercial Drivers Licence or CDL for short. CDL's are obtainable through instruction at a driving school or come as part of an employment package. You have lots of options here and can complete the training in intensive courses if you prefer.

If you are working for a company and they pay for you to get you CDL there are conditions attached which prevent you from leaving within a certain time frame. They do this because they make a big investment in you and after this period you are likely to be up to speed with your job and the investment is paid off.

Its a good idea to look into the CDL further, some websites can provide CDL training which can be very useful pre training instruction.

So you have found a job and have your CDL, truck companies would not usually stick you out on the road straight away but will provide additional training initially and on going through your career as a truck driver.

Truck drivers are capable of earning big wages, this is one of the main draws to the industry and you might even be paid on a weekly basis rather than monthly. Depending on your pay structure you might be paid per mile, per hour or per consignment delivery.

Becoming a truck driver can be expensive to begin with but the benefits are soon felt, truck drivers earn some of the best wages considering the short period of time needed to obtain qualifications, vs a University graduate.

Trucking is one of the most rewarding careers and learning is on going and on the job. Before becoming a truck driver you really need to evaluate the lifestyle and requirements you will be subject to.
