Getting Familiar With The New Health Care Insurance Changes

By:

Back in the day, say for instance the 1980's and 90's, was a good representation of your parents health insurance policy and much different than today's policies. Expensive health insurance policies, lots of limits endless restrictions seem to make up today's health care environment.

For anyone who is under the impression that the health care changes are more along the lines of the medical part of the system and very little with the health insurance policies and plans need to reexamine what is really going on. The changes that are occurring is causing a splitting process that many policy holders are unaware of, but should be very aware of.

Gradually doctors have begun to pass along specialties and as a result there are now many different things that a GP can not or will not do in their office. This lends itself to bringing in additional staff and technicians and in many cases these additional services must be provided outside of the doctor's office which means that even if they are a part of a routine exam or check up with your primary care physician you can be billed completely separately for these additional services which can not only increase the cost of your visit but they can also catch you by surprise when a bill comes in the mail several weeks later.

A frightening financial trend is beginning to emerge for many patients concerning the new billing procedures and many have no idea that this is new policy until after they receive their billing statement. They are being billed for their regular office visit and for additional tests and screening procedures from other offices that could have been preformed in their regular doctor's office or during a routine office visit, examine or blood work procedure and will add additional cost above and beyond the standard co-pay.

Many people blame the doctors for this practice, when in fact these are actually new requirements being implemented by the health insurance companies. Some of these new guidelines require no blood drawing during a regular office visit. However, some doctors who want to better serve their patients will have a special blood drawing session, but will still have a separate charge attached to the procedure. It is estimated that at least three office visits are required before any illness or disease can be diagnosed and the patients could be paying three times as much as just ten years earlier. They are becoming very good magicians when they can increase your co-pay three fold and no one becoming any wiser to these tricks.
