Getting Exposure for Your Catalogs

The most important thing about a catalog is the mailing list for it. This is a direct representation of how effective your catalogs and your marketing is. If your mailing list is low than you aren’t really getting much for your money each time you print catalogs. I would say that the size of the mailing list is the best way to judge how successful your catalogs are.

This means you need to have a lot of ways to increase your distribution and make sure as many people as possible are on your mailing list. Here are some tips to improve the size of your mailing list and ensure you have a strong readership.

You can set up a referral system for your current subscribers to encourage them to contact other people. If someone sends in a form to get your catalog and they list another person on your mailing list as the reason for it, give that person a discount or something for free. Make sure people know that they’ll be rewarded if they help expand your list and improve your overall business and sales.

Another good way of getting exposure for your catalogs is to offer them for free to various places where people are going to be in waiting rooms. For doctor offices, dentists, and any other business you can think of ask them if they want copies of your catalog free of charge. If you send one to them no matter what odds are good they’ll put them on a desk or table simply so they’ll have more things to put there.

If you have a physical location for your business you’ll want to be certain that you make your catalogs presence known. Each time someone makes a purchase mention your catalog to them, or you can simply put their name on your mailing list right then if you want to. The same goes for if you have a website. I know of plenty of places where I ordered from online, and then started getting catalogs from them in the mail.

If a catalog shows up a lot of people are going to take interest in them, especially if the cover is unique enough, or shows them a product they have interest in buying.

You’ll always want to get the biggest order possible when you print catalogs to be sure that you have plenty on hand to give to anyone who might have any kind of interest in them. Never hesitate to put someone on your mailing list, but then also be sure to take them off if they don’t want it. You won’t get business from them and you’ll just be spending money to send a catalog to someone who doesn’t want it.
