Getting Back Into Shape With Effective Weight Loss Training

By:

My foray into weight loss training initiated from a friendly dare. Getting back into tennis after twenty years, I met up with some old friends who I used to play together and against growing up as a teenager. We would recount the good old age group days when we would go to different cities during the summer and play a 4 day tournament, pack up and go home to get some more clothes, and then proceed to another place, compete in another tournament. I guess all of us were fit then but after twenty years, I dare say that most of us have gained some undesired weight, to say the least.

We had agreed to meet in six months time to play in a mini tournament and whoever the winner was had bragging rights for the next six months when the same mini tournament would be played. Game on!

Looking myself in the mirror that very evening, I saw this as a Herculean task, almost impossible to achieve. My wife saw me shaking my head and suggested that you enroll in a weight loss training program at my local club. Why not, I thought, as it would give me time to get into shape and hopefully play a good match against my buddies who were in a relatively healthier than I was.

Meeting my " life coach," the first thing I learned about weight loss training was that it wasn't just about the exercise, but it was the whole concept of living well, or " finding the balance" in my life. It was about making a conscious choice to eat well, knowing which food groups are good for you, about exercising on a regular basis and not sporadically, and moreover, it was about enjoying your life- which also meant being around for your family for a long time. I realized that this weight loss training wasn't just for me to do well in a tennis tournament among friends, but it was for me to do well.

Weight loss training isn't easy. It isn't about the weight training, the running, the eating or dieting but it's about the daily commitment to make you a better person. There are times when I would feel lazy to do any weight loss training programs but I was urged on, not just by my life coach but my family as well. Six months later, I held my own in that tournament, not necessarily winning the bragging rights but good enough to be noticed by friends that I looked better than before. Wait another six months and ill be on my fighting weight and win the damn thing.
