Just be aware that you need to abide by all state land rules and camping requirements while in the reserves. There are also more specific rules in certain areas so make sure that you are aware of the regulations before you go out for you hunt.

Finger Lakes National Forest (east of Seneca Lake in Schuyler and Seneca Counties) and Whitney Point Reservoir Multiple Use Area (north of Whitney Point and several miles off of SR 26) are both prime locations for big and small game hunting and neither of these areas require any kind of special permit.

Moose River Recreation Area (Hamilton County) with its 50,000 acres of backwoods setting is a prime hunting and trapping location. Just the name of it is enough to get most outdoorsmen excited. There are 140 primitive campsites available. You just need to sure that you register at the entrance gate.

If you are looking to go hunting somewhere closer in to town, you may be interested to know that there are designated New York City Watershed Lands that have been made available for hunting. These properties allow deer, bear, turkey, and small game hunting. Just make sure to do your research before you hunt because not all New York City Watersheds have been set aside and approved as hunting areas.

Although New York is most well known for the excitement of the big city, it definitely has something to offer for people who can't wait to get out into nature and hunt. Go ahead.
