People despise being inconsistent. Humans are creatures of habit, so they remain consistent. That is why people come out of rehab and start using drugs again. That is how they see THEMSELVES. It is a self fulfilling prophesy.

Your ex broke up with you because they either saw themselves as inconsistent staying with you, or they see you as being inconsistent. One of these two will emerge if you dig deep enough. The only thing you must do is prove to them it will be inconsistent to be without you. This is both effective and slightly manipulative. Don't worry, they will never know.

They then asked 100 different homeowners if they would put a small sticker on their garage window that said Keep California beautiful. It was such a small request 97 said yes. Two weeks later the same 97 people who said yes to the small sticker were asked if they would allow them to put up the same unsightly gaudy billboard in their yard. Over 2 thirds said yes. It was consistent with what they had done in the past.
