Get The Most Out Of Your Wicker Furniture

Touted as one of the oldest forms of craftsmanship, wicker is perhaps one of the most comfortable and relaxing furnishings in the field of furniture. Accordingly, the casual, elegant and homey characteristics of wicker furnishings, such as wicker sofa, have unparalleled emotional and visual appeal regardless if they are positioned on the patio, living area, and even at back porches. However, the same features that make wicker furniture soft, light and comfortable are also what make it easily damaged. Unlike wood furnishings that could withstand rough handling, wicker furnishings require careful handling in order to prolong their service life, and in order to this you may want to look at the following guidelines on how you could lengthen the life of your wicker furniture.

Avoid stepping on your wicker sofa and use your own power when rising out from it. When getting things from shelves that are not within your reach, do not use your wicker chair; doing this would surely affect the seat of the chair, and worse can lead you to an accident due to the slippery texture of the furniture. Similarly, when you are going to rise from your wicker chair avoid pressing your weight on the chair's armrests, rather lean forward to create enough force for you to stand up. Excessive weight on the armrests of wicker chair could dramatically crush the wicker, and if done frequently would damage the overall structure of such furniture.

While resting on your wicker sofa, do not tilt it back or use it as a rocking chair. Definitely, tilting back your sofa so that it can rests on its back legs while leaning against the wall, or rocking it back and forth somehow provides a comfortable and relaxing feeling. But, these practices generally exert too much effort on the legs of your sofa specifically the back legs, which may eventually lead for the chair's inability to support weight. If you continuously do this, one of these days you'll probably fall backward which isn't either comfortable or relaxing experience.

Regularly practice seat rotations. This is pretty much applicable both for indoor and outdoor wicker dining set. If at all times the same people sit in the same wicker chairs around the dining table, the constant strain from their weight and posture could actually wear out the chairs. Be sure to rotate the chairs in order to be used by other members of the family every two to three weeks so that none of your wicker chairs would be strained from the same weight over and over again.

Always try to consider the weather. Even though you are using all weather wicker dining sets on your patio or backyard, their name does not always warrant their quality as over exposure to natural elements could also take a toll on their aesthetics. As the covers for outdoor fixtures have high price tags, you could actually use water proof mattress covers in place of outdoor fixture covers. When you're not using your outdoor wicker furnishings, slide these water proof mattress covers on your fixtures to protect them for damage.

Regularly clean your wicker furnishings most especially those that are used outdoor. Outdoor all weather wicker dining sets could easily catch dirt that could build up in their crevices, and in order to avoid this from happening use an attachment hose and connect it your vacuum cleaner, while the air is blowing brush the crevices of your wicker furniture with a soft-bristled brush. Washing your wicker furnishings with soapy water could also be a good alternative. Aside from these things, regularly check your wicker if it has unraveling strands and if it does use a clear cellophane tape to secure the errant stand on its position to avoid further damage.
