The snow is melting and the temperatures are finally climbing out of the basement. Its been a long, cold winter and youre ready for the spring; but is your car? Spring is a great time for scheduled maintenance. The weather is warmer, the birds are singing, and you can enjoy some fresh air while you get your car ready for the summer ahead.

If youve been running thinner oil for the winter, nows the time to change back to something a little more appropriate for the hot summer. Be sure to check your owners manual for the manufacturers recommendations.

As long as youre under the hood, be sure to check your hoses and belts for wear or cracking and top off all of your fluids. Finally, check the battery. Clean the terminals and connectors of any corrosion that built up over the winter to prevent summer breakdowns.

Check Those Fuel Injectors!

You may already know that your fuel filter should be changed when you do your tune up for maximum performance and fuel efficiency; but a lot of people neglect their fuel injectors. Using high quality gasoline helps to keep them clean, and there are plenty of fuel additives to go that extra step.

Tires and Brakes

If youve been rolling on winter tires, its time to switch to something a little friendlier on the gas gauge. Remember, if youre storing them on the rims, Transport Canada recommends airing them down to about 103 kPa (approximately 15 psi) so they will look and ride like new next winter.

If youve been running all season radials, spring is the time to rotate them! While you have the wheels off be sure to check the brakes. Replace worn brake pads and check brake rotors and brake drums for scoring.
