Much of the motivation to visit Kenya in East Africa is to appreciate its natural beauty and tremendous wildlife. It’s a simple statement for a far greater experience.
It bears historical significance too. It was the location of Queen Elizabeth II’s 1952 accession to the throne after the death of her father, King George VI, while she was holidaying there with Prince Philip.
Luxury hotels in Nairobi are geared for tourists of every description, whether they’re en route to join a safari or tour the capital city’s museums and monuments.
The Karen Blixen Museum is another notable place to visit. It’s at the former homestead of the Danish author, poet and artist, Karen Blixen, who wrote Out of Africa under the pen name Isak Dinesen. The suburb, Karen, is named after her.
The safari options, like the topography, are extreme. You can walk with a Masai warrior or get a different perspective floating in a hot-air balloon over the Masai Mara plains. Luxury hotels in Nairobi are well placed to provide access to the kind of holiday that gives credence to the city’s reputation as the safari capital of the world. Kenya has several noteworthy game reserves, some of which are close to luxury hotels in Nairobi, where you can experience incredible sightings of wild animals in their natural environment. There are orphanage and rehabilitation centres for traumatised animals located in the city too – giraffe, elephant and rhino are given special care there until they are well and strong enough to be returned to the wild.
Some people are strangely terrified of animals of the feathered variety. They would find little interest in the country’s 400 bird species, its international birding competitions, or the marvellous spectacle that two million flamingoes make at Lake Nakuru.
On the subject of topography, the Great Rift Valley provides some spectacular views too. Using luxury hotels in Nairobi as your base you can also tour to Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake, at the start of the Nile River. If you have time for some sporting action, because Kenya is on the equator you have the unusual opportunity to play golf in the northern and southern hemispheres at the Mt Kenya Safari Club.
A holiday at luxury hotels in Nairobi could give you the energy to explore Kenya’s magnificent beaches too. At Mombasa, you can “walk half a mile into the Indian Ocean”.
