Get Started Early If You Want To Pvp In Cataclysm Patch 4.1

It's the beginning of a new arena season, that means a complete gear reset which will put all the new level 85 players at the same starting point. In Cataclysm you will see many changes to the PvP systems such as the addition of new arena locations, whole new battlegrounds, rated battlegrounds, brand new rewards and an entire zone dedicated to world PvP. This is the perfect time to get ahead of the game and get geared for Player vs. Player combat. Recently hitting level 85 myself, I noticed a lack of information about the best ways to acquire PvP gear for my upcoming adventures in Azeroth. The early birds are going to quickly get to PvPing and earning gear. If you don't want to get left behind this is an absolutely necessary part of the process.

Conquest Points join the Honor Point system as the new currency dished out for buying new PvP gear. Those focusing on PvE gameplay may want to snag some Conquest Points for the epic weaponry, too especially if you have limited access to raid content because while some points are wasted on resilience, they still offer an incredible bang for the easily obtainable buck. In order to get a decent amount of Conquest Points, youre going to need to either play some rated battlegrounds or run an Arena team. Setting up this second option is a lot easier than it used to be just hit [H] to bring up the PvP panel, select the Arena Teams tab, click the banner to create a 2v2, 3v3 or 5v5 team, pick a name and youre good to go. No charter, or cash layout.

Try to save up early for your weapon, offhand, and relic/wand. These three slots are the only pieces of gear that can only be bought with conquest points -- don't make the mistake of buying other stuff with conquest points! You can just get a slightly inferior version of the other pieces via honor, but you might have to wave around that green or blue weapon for a while if you aren't wise about what you buy!
