Get Soaked In The Colors Of Pushkar Fair Of Rajasthan

Pushkar Fair is among the most celebrated fairs of Rajasthan. It is held every year in the month of November on Kartik Purnima. This day is considered auspicious for taking bath in the holy Pushkar Lake. The fair is celebrated in the holy city Pushkar in Rajasthan.

It is the largest cattle fair of the world which attracts visitors from far and wide. Travel to Rajasthan during the fair to catch a glimpse of colorful Rajasthan culture. This city is called the abode of Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe. It houses the only Brahma temple of the world. Devotees come from far and wide to take a dip in the holy waters of the Lake. The fair is also the time for the Rajasthanis to punctuate their hard life with entertainment, fun and enjoyment. Camel race and parade are the star attractions of the fair. In the fair there are several stalls serving traditional Rajasthani dishes. Gorge on the dishes and surely the flavor will linger on. Also buy some wonderful handicrafts of Rajasthan such as tie and dye fabric, silver jewelry, blue pottery, marble statues, puppets and embroidered juttis from the handicrafts stalls.

The lake is hemmed in by several ghats and some of these ghats hold sheer religious significance. The legend goes that Lord Vishnu, in the form of a boar, appeared on the Varah ghat. And at the Brahma ghat, Lord Brahma performed yagna.

Cattles trading is an important part of the fair. During the fair traders decorate their cattle like camel, horse, cow, goats and sheep and bring them for lucrative deals. One can get well-bred cattle here.
