You know its there...... underneath that belly fat, what am I talking about? I'm talking about how to get a flat stomach.

Step 1

Lets identify why you want to get a flat stomach. Focus on the goal and the path will be much easier. Were you embarrassed at the last photograph taken of you? Have you been advised to lose weight? Do you want to look younger, healthier and more toned? Your reasons are not important as long as you have one.

Step 2

Eat what you want, when you want, just in moderation. Sounds easy? It really is that easy. Making simple changes to your diet can make huge changes to your body and can help you get a flat stomach. The best part is that these changes do not have to cost anything.

Making small changes to your diet, such as switching to less refined foods, can help you lose weight. Whole grain pasta is event tastier then the traditional white pasta. Brown rice, cooked in vegetable or chicken stock can really add texture and flavour to your meal. You may be eating hidden sugars without realising it. Imagine being able to save money, lose weight and have more energy at the same time; switching to oat based cereals, such as porridge, is not only cheaper but actually more nutritious. Whole grains are easier to digest and are less likely to make you feel bloated, bringing you one step closer to get a flat stomach now.

Step 2

Timing is everything! Breakfast is exactly what it says. We are "breaking" a "fast". After 7 - 8 hour sleep, our stomachs are empty and are craving substantial foods. Try and avoid dashing out the door with just a cup of coffee to sustain you. Even getting up an extra 10 minutes earlier and taking time to have a banana and a piece of whole grain toast can make a difference to your concentration and energy levels during the rest of the day. It will even save you money as you won't get the usually "mid morning nibbles".

Step 3

Get moving! Get your heart going. If you take the bus to work, try getting off one stop earlier and walk the rest of the way. If you normally take an elevator, take the stairs. Take 15 minutes out of your lunch break and talk a walk around the block. Not only will you feel better, but you will expose your body to much needed sun light and get your hear moving at the same time. Exercise tones muscles, improves posture and will help you get a flat stomach.

Step 4

Have fun and enjoy it! Learning how to get a flat stomach does not mean that you have to spend hours getting fit. Share your ideas with a friend, tell your partner and/or your children, get the family involved, have a bet with your work colleagues, you could even set yourself a challenge to lose weight for charity. There are lots of ways to make it fun and the more fun you have, the more likely you are to stick to the plan and your goal - get a flat stomach.
