I saw a fabulous t-shirt today; it had the Nike swish and the words "Just Did It!" Are you looking to get a flat stomach? What is stopping you? Procrastination is the thief of time. We all have 24 hours but we are individually responsible as to how we spend those hours. Motivation and discipline have to come from from within your heart and mind. Sometimes it can help to do it for a higher good. Do it for a particular event or have a specific time line in mind. Here are a few pointers to get you started.

Have you heard the expression - reach for the moon and you will reach the stars. Set yourself a fairly big goal, one that makes your heart pound. Your first goal is to reduce your body fat. Believe it or not, this may actually increase your body weight as muscle weighs more. If this idea depresses you, then just stop weighing yourself and measure yourself instead. Take a long and hard look at what you are actually eating, rubbish in = rubbish out. Really take time to read labels and the ingredient lists on foods. If you can't pronounce it or it did not exist 10 years ago, don't eat it. Spend time reading the fat content as some diet foods can actually contain hidden fats. Knowledge is power.

My next tip is to look at WHEN you are eating, write down the times and the habits. Try and eat your carbohydrates earlier in the day or before you need to exert yourself, like before a workout. Try to avoid eating carbohydrates late at night. If your body does not use the energy in food, it stores it as fat and that's exactly what keeps us from our goal - get a flat stomach. Let's mix it up a bit. If you listen to the same song time and time again, it gets boring. That's why artists often produce their own covers or remix a particular favourite hit to keep the public buying their music. It's not different with your body. To really teach your body to get a flat stomach, you have to keep it entertained. Try different types of exercise; circuit training, running, resistance, walking, skipping, swimming, jumping even running up and down the stairs.

The subject of nutrition and exercise is vast but this is a good starting point. If you really want to get a flat stomach, then be consistent, both with exercise and eating. Cheating only fools yourself and can become very de-motivating. Write your goal down or share it with a friend to help keep you accountable. Before you know it, you will be wearing a "Just Did It" t-shirt. You can get a flat stomach with discipline, a clear plan and by sticking to these tips.
