With a 25 page per minute print speed, the Gestetner 3225 is a full twenty percent faster than its counterpart unit, the Gestetner 3220, yet retains all the features and expandability options of the lower end unit. While this print speed is disappointingly limited to a 400 dot per inch quality level, a maximum resolution of 600 x 600 dots per inch is obtainable at some cost to overall speed. Copies also reproduce at the lower, 400 dot per inch resolution, and with a limited 256 level gray scale. Though images will suffer in quality under these conditions, black and white text and simple monochrome graphics should come out just fine.

Reduction and enlargement features are both incorporated into the Gestetner 3225, and can be accessed directly via a dedicated LCD screen. Input copies can be reduces down to as small as 25% of their original size and, thanks to a 2 on 1 feature and on board memory, multiple pages can be stored within the unit and then squeezed onto single sheets of output. Enlargement can be set up to 400% in single percentage increments, or along a series of convenient preset values.

The Gestetner 3225s paper handling abilities are outstanding, with a total potential paper capacity of 2,850 sheets composed of a range of standard trays and optional add ons. Two 500 sheet trays capable of holding an entire ream of paper each come stock with the unit, as well as a single 250 sheet tray. Unlike many corporate level copy machines, the 100 sheet bypass tray is also standard with the original hardware. With a 1,500 sheet large capacity tray optional for separate purchase, the 3225 should pose no problem regarding paper shortages regardless of output needs.

Fax speed is a little slow, due in part to the limited 14.4 Kbps modem which is not upgradable. Still, with a transmission speed of 4 seconds per page, the unit is only slightly behind todays 33.6 K modems. When the duplex printing add on is implemented, incoming faxes can be stored internally, and reproduced in double sided format. For jobs that require massive amounts of stapling, a finisher hardware addition is available with a 1,000 sheet capacity that will save hours of labor from this tedious task.

Auto magnification, series copy, a combine mode, and a negative/ positive option are just a few of the standard options the Gestetner 3225 has to offer. With center/border erase, electronic sorting, auto tray select, job programming, and up to 50 user codes that add complete security to a large number of individuals or departments, it is hard to compete with the Gestetner 3225 for versatility, or convenience factor.
