German Shepherd Obedience Training Tips

By:

Having already had two German Shepherds in my lifetime and realise how awkward both of them were to train. German shepherd obedience training can be quite difficult.

Which meant when I got Sheba, my latest puppy, I fully understood I was going to have my hands full! Sheba was almost 8 weeks of age when I picked her up.

Try And Become The Pack Leader

Something I found was it really helped to try and become the leader of the pack from when they were puppies.

What this means is you are half of the way there already. The tricky part is definitely getting them to realise that you are the leader.

You maybe already understand that dogs are pack animals and love to be in a pack & have a top dog or be the top dog themselves.

Dogs of All Sizes Will Follow the Leader

All dog breeds will copy the top dog and usually behave like the leader & German Shepherds are not different just because they are big breeds.

When I received my very first German shepherd I didn't realise just how crucial this happened to be. It was only when I viewed a 30 minute online video that it taught me just how essential this is.

This video was inside a training course from a popular dog trainer & to be clear, I would be completely clueless without it!

It came in really handy and I watched it a couple of times on my laptop before I could digest it and give it a go with my new puppy.

I was completely amazed at how quickly she would copy what I was doing and realise when something was wrong.
