The German Shepherd is considered one of the most adaptable breed in the world of pure bred dogs. This dog can be trained well, is a good companion, protector and competes at the highest level in all confrontation and performance events. The German shepherds are also called as Alsatians. This name is often misspelled as 'Alsation'. However, the name was derived from a place called 'Alsace'. The German shepherd like its name is a sheep dog. People from ages have used this dog for security, have found it to be obedient, a very good companion come guardian. It is considered a symbol of loyalty to its masters.

As we all know, German shepherds are one of the most popular dogs in most of the houses today. These dogs are well-proportioned, Muscular and trim and have pricked years. There are agile and very quick. The noble German shepherd is a well balanced and is taller than it's longer. It is a black and tan dog predominantly, however, can be grey which looks like blue or brown with varying amount of those colors. Its legs are usually very light and face is dark with accents on the ears. It also has almond shaped eyes with a lively, intelligent expression. The tail is bushy and hangs down.

This Dog trots very well and moves very smoothly and rhythmically and can cover a lot of ground while moving. When it runs it takes long strides very quick and easy. The rear legs seem to deliver a power push that propels the front end forward. The dog can easily spring from its hindquarters, jumping up or forward to quite a distance.

Generally these dogs like to be very close to their families and as mentioned above very loyal and protective. They have a capacity to learn very fast and are very lovable. These dogs should be socialized and should be trained at a very young age and should be thought obedience. They require a very firm and loving attitude thorough out their lives. Shepherds are used for guard, search, and rescue as they are fearless, direct, calm, confident and intelligent. Like other dogs, this breed does not bark all the time. However, they do bark as a warning of perceived danger. Today, we see a lot of police using this dog, as it is a good sniffer and can trace bombs. As a family dog, your Alsatian will enjoy obedience, agility, fly ball, and tracking activities.

Nowadays, it is really important to research before getting an Alsatian. This is because a lot or people sell Alsatians which are shy and nervous. One tip to get an Alsatian is to know their parents and its relatives to get a clear picture about their personality. Last Sunday I watched a program on the German Shepherds. Immediately I went searching on my internet for information, where I found a number to call one of the breeders in my town. I did this very quick using my Verizon FiOS Bundles that I bought recently. Take care of the health of the German shepherd as they get a hip and elbow dysplasia and digestive disorders. This breed is generally suited for larger households and live up to nine to fifteen years. It litters up to 9 and the maximum can go up to fourteen puppies. It generally sheds a lot of its coat; therefore avoid brushing its coat on a daily basis. Giving a proper bath will help it avoid shedding its coat. And most important of all is to keeps the claws trimmed and check its years regularly.
