Generate A Great Income Online As An Affiliate Marketer

Having a business of your own can be very rewarding. Being your own boss has it's advantages. You work as much as you want, work your own schedule and have no one else to answer to. In our current economic climate, few people have the finances to start their own business. Especially a traditional business. Thankfully, there is another business model available for the budding entrepreneur.

Maybe you've heard of internet marketers who make their living online. Maybe you've tried it yourself and failed. In any case, starting a business online is a lot more cost effective and you can become profitable in a shorter period of time. Again, making informed decisions is the key. There are many ways to start an online business. The two most common are creating your own product, of choosing to represent a product that someone else has developed. Many people who are new to starting an online business choose to represent the products of others.

The main reason is because someone else has done at least half the work. They created the product or service, designed a website for them and wrote most of the sales copy. You select the right company, product and do some target marketing. Although this is a bit simplified, it works. When you represent another's product, you are considered an Affiliate Marketer.

An excellent question I get all the time is: how do you decide what company to represent? The first thing I tell people is that they should have a personal interest in whatever the companies product or service is. It makes sense that if you like what you promote, you'll enjoy promoting it. It should also have excellent marketability. Something that people use and identify with.

Another important question is this: Does the company pay on a percentage of each sale you make or is there a commission? Most companies that offer a service as their product provide residual commissions on a renewable basis. So, if you sign someone up for their service, you get a percentage of their subscription renewal each week, month or quarter. Something else to consider is how much does it cost to subscribe to the service? Even if it's a sought after product, people are still reluctant to pay a premium for anything. On the flip side, you still need to make a decent commission and you should seek out companies that have a sufficient pay plan.

I can't believe it but it's been 8 years now online. The first few were really difficult. I didn't have anyone to guide me and I made a lot of mistakes but I own every one of them and they taught me some important lessons. I'm still an affiliate for a few companies, but now I've developed and produced 2 of my own products and I have quite a few affiliates who market them. Being an affiliate taught me the most effective internet marketing methods. Methods I still rely on which continue to grow my business.

Starting out as an affiliate is the path that I recommend. You can make good money representing the right products and services. I created enough of an income online being an affiliate, that I didn't have to work for anyone any longer... but I do. I work in a hardware store and I love it. My dad owned a hardware store when I was younger, so I guess it's in the blood. One of the things that makes my job so rewarding is that there's no pressure. When you don't need a job for your survival, it actually makes working fun. (Working... Fun?!)
