Geek T-shirts

Geek t shirts could be said to be any popular culture t shirts that feature characters and images that are popular among the geek fraternity. This includes superhero t shirts, Star Wars t shirts, gaming t shirts and many more. This is a highly successful industry and a big market and there are many reasons why geek t shirts are so popular.

In the past being called a geek could be considered an insult and many people still do not like to be associated with the term. However this is a shame when you consider that all a geek usually is is someone who is a fan of popular culture, science fiction or other fantasy stories. Often geeks are associated with using the computer and generally being 'brainy' but again it's hard to see how this is a bad thing. Thus, geeks have taken the term back and 'owned' it in a way that makes the term seem less derogatory and more flattering. To be a geek is no longer necessarily a bad thing and it can in fact be quite a 'cool' thing. The term 'geek chic' is one you hear a lot and this refers to how people are often emulating the look of the geek who is young at heart, in tune with popular culture, and who has intelligent hobbies and interests.

Thus more and more people are buying geek t shirts in order to be associated with these more positive qualities, while at the same time to demonstrate that they don't take themselves too seriously. Many of the things that once were considered uncool are now also more mainstream superhero t shirts for instance are more popular since superheroes have found their way into Hollywood following the successful Spider-Man franchise all the way through to the upcoming Avengers movie. Other older subjects like Star Wars t shirts are now old enough that they have developed a kind of 'retro cool' as they create fond memories in many people who grew up with the franchises. Gaming t shirts are also now more popular than ever as more and more people play games the Wii console even making gaming popular among girls and older relatives.

So geek t shirts can now be trendy t shirts, but picking them is still something you need to be careful with and to get trendy t shirts you need to make sure that your chosen image is self-aware and fun. An old Star Wars t shirt for instance will be admired by many who appreciate the guts it takes to wear the t shirt and who enjoy the series. A Popeye t shirt meanwhile can also be especially fun as he is a character that many of us enjoyed watching when we were younger but will now have grown out of. What's less trendy is geek t shirts that other people won't understand, or that are based on too heavy a knowledge of the characters' universe. However if this is a t shirt that you like the looks of, and a story that you are a fan of, then you shouldn't worry too much about whether it is geek chic or just geek.
