A gear hob is a technique to create gear teeth configurations for use in machinery components. Gear hobs splines are progressively cut into work piece by a series of cuts which are made by cutting tool also called hob. The process of gear hob is quite cheap, compared to other gear forming processes. Gear hobbing process is widely used to cut gears. Maximum number of gears is cut by hobbing rather than any other process. Different types of gears are cut in the process of gear hob like cycloid gears, helical gears, involute, splines, spur gears and many others.

Spline hob is manufactured according to the standard and requirements of the customer. Spline hob is also used for cutting standard and involute splines. Spline hobs show some features like lugs without chamfer, without lugs and without chamfer, with lugs and chamfer, without lugs but with chamfer. Spline hobs are used to create gears. Spline hobs can be classified into "A","AA", "B" ground floor and class "C".Warm gear hobs are manufactured according to the drawing figure, specifications in Topping and Non-Topping Worm, Shank type worm wheel hobs and Bore type worm wheel hobs. Warm gear hobs can be used in machine relieved and ground relieved forms. Warm gear hobs can be hollow type or integral shank type depends on the strength.

Gear cutting tools refer to the process of creating gears. Broaching, hobbing and machining etc. are the common process in this procedure. Normally, gears are made from plastics, wood and metal. Broaching is used for large gears in gear cutting. There are different types of gear cutting tools which are used in all the industries like involute gear cutter, spline gear cutter etc. Gear cutting tools should be of high quality and should be highly specified. The technology in making such type of tools should be of high standard.
